Mother Nature's Valentine

While on my daily walk I happened upon this lovely gift from Mother Earth. It appears to be a heart shaped seed pod that has deteriorated over time. The hard outer layer that had once protected the inner seed has faded away, leaving behind a delicate lace exterior revealing its content, a brilliant red seed. This photograph does not do justice in capturing the delicacy and beauty of this earthly treasure. I took it home and gently placed it in a cabinet where it will remain along side other small wonders that I have collected over the years. I know I can not stop the process of life and that eventually this gift will fade away but I will enjoy its beauty everyday until all that is left is the memory of this precious find.

Melissa, your find reminded me of something my youngest son would discover. He's always finding cool gifts from nature. Must be that highly selective eye!

It looks like the "flower" of a Chinese Lantern (http://www.garden.com/lc/chineselanternplant.aspx). You could probably make these using the same technique as making skeleton leaves (http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Skeleton-Leaves).

Very pretty!

How wonderful!! Would it be beautiful in its own little shadow box? I see leaf skeletons fromes agast black velvet at Gumps, they are truly amazing!

Thank you for your kind comments on my blog.. I have not been very good at keeping up lately but am enjoying my coffee this morning and re-connecting with friends!

Have a grrrreat weekend!

Wow...that is amazing, :) Someone else had a block of snow that was a heart too. I guess there is love all around us if we look hard enough. :)
Great find!
